Topic:
You Can Take It With You: Leveraging SQL Server Mobile and the Compact Framework

Abstract:
Your data is the most important part of you applications, especially when you are away from your desk. Whether you are doing inventory management on the warehouse floor or taking car specifications to the car lot - SQL Server Mobile and the Compact Framework 2.0 make it easy to take that data with you wherever you go. In this session, we will explore the capabilities of SQL Server Mobile and ADO.NET on the Compact Framework. This will include the limitations of SQL Server Mobile verses SQL Server and the limitations of ADO.NET on the Compact Framework verses the full framework. We will discuss various ways to populate SQL Server Mobile, including RDA (Remote Data Access), Merge Replication and using ADO.NET from the Compact Framework to talk to SQL Server directly. Each of these methods has their benefits and detriments and we will investigate each of these. The audience will walk away with an understanding of what is and is not possible with mobilized data on the Compact Framework and an understanding of how to accomplish mobilizing your data.
